RJ's Beginner Guide to Leveling Systems
RV Leveling System
The Lippert hydraulic leveling system is a very useful feature, especially for full-time RV Odyssey folks. Let's go over how to properly use it for the first time. First and foremost, always disconnect your tow vehicle from the 5th wheel before starting the leveling process. The RV could drop down much farther than we expect (6 - 10 inches or more!) as it works to level so its very important you have complete clearance around your rig. If you've driven all day, chances are your battery is depleted by now and your leveling system will require quite a lot of power from the battery in order to operate correctly. That being said, It's helpful to plug into shore power this way you have sufficient power for successful completion of the leveling process. Keep your slides in until you're successfully level. Over time, if you notice your trailer starting to sink and it's no longer level, it could be because the ground beneath it has shifted. If you're having trouble with water draining in the shower or if things feel slightly off when walking around, you can readjust your leveling system without pulling in your slides. To avoid any issues, please ensure you are in manual mode and only making slight changes. If you need to make more substantial adjustments, first bring your slides in so that you don't run the risk of jamming them.
Resetting the zero point. From time to time you may find out that your leveling system could no longer be reading correctly. In this case you need to reset zero point. To do this you need to start with your system being off so the screen is not illuminated. Then you press the up arrow 10 times followed by the down arrow 10 times and it which point the screen should turn on and beep at you. At this point the Lippert system is ready to relearn what level is. Now you're going to manually level the system and really make sure that the floor is truly level you can even get a hand level on the floor inside the rig check it in the X in the Y dimensions. Once you know for sure that it is level. Then just hit enter and it's reset. Now it knows what you're looking for in terms of level for the next time.
